We Tried

We live about 5 miles from the great Oak Mountain State Park. We tried, as we always do, to go all the way down the mountain to see the base of the waterfall. We didn't make it this year cause Avery's legs didn't know how to be as long as ours. I bet next year we make it to the bottom.

Our initial plan this year, when Grace said she wanted to be Snow White, was to make Avery be the Wicked Stepmother. After many hours of searching no such costume could be found. Fortunately she made a beautiful Vampire princess. We had a great time beggin' for candy, our new neighborhood RULEZ for Halloween. Boo!

Smoky Mountain High

Over the last weekend Our family went to Gatlinburg, TN. We spent a lot of time in the Smoky Mountain National Forest, in fact we didn't want to leave. It was one of those trips where on the last day we were scheming a way to stay a few extra days. We have come to the conclusion that before we go out of the country on another vacation we will be taking in A LOT more of our own National Parks. I was born about 2 hours away from this place and for the first time in years I felt a little homesick. It is very peaceful, serene, and best of all (for my wife) inexpensive. As always I took way too many pictures and I hope you can muddle through them. Inspiration came easy and often this trip. Enjoy.

I'm Back

Whoa. Since the forth of July it has been bizz-ee. The story begins with a beautiful wedding. My friends Scott and Robyn tied the knot on the 7th. The ceremony was touching, thought provoking, and short. My favorite kind of ceremony. The reception that followed was a phenomenal party that I wish were still going on. Congratulations to my homeys. I used my time back in Algonquin to eat my weight in Algonquin Sub Shop, and spend time with a lot of friends and family. I hitched a ride back home with my homeboy Poke and he graced our doorstep until yesterday. We also had a surprise visit from my mom and gramma during the week. Grace and family were in visitor heaven. So I am ready to get back to work on here. I have some things planned for the next few months so stay tuned. Just so you don't think I was lazy during the break here are a couple of albums to look at. The first is my take on Scott and Robyn's wedding, the second is a trip Poke and I took to see the local AA baseball team the "Biscuits". Since he lives in Orlando we decided to take my Gramma up on her offer to watch Avery and headed off to "Mickey Mouse House"...as Grace calls it. Our Easter Weekend

The great thing about having kids is that you always have something to do. Why let's just say you were bored, with all of your weekend chores to do, lets also say that you're in need of a reminder that you have a three and a half year old. Life answers the call! Grace was all excited about her Easter party at school on Thursday when about midmorning her vomit covered her classmates. Party started right. Grace of course couldn't understand why she couldn't stay for the party. It was now up to Mom and Dad to make up for the loss. This was going to be hard because Friday night Mom and Dad started to understand why Grace had to miss her party. Luckily we started to feel better on Sat. I learned this weekend that Dogwoods blooming are a sign that Easter is coming. The blooms resemble a cross with blood at the tips. Here I just thought they were pretty. It's way deeper than that.

When i pulled over to take this picture there was an older gentleman in front of the mission. Minding my own business I took my shot and walked back to my car. The older man, curious, called to me. I pretended not to hear him. He called again and I turned around to see a man using a walker to get over to me. I stopped. He was in a hurry to see me. He would have gotten to me faster if he had been using both hands on the walker. Of course to yell "Sir, Sir" he had to cover the hole in the tube in his neck. This made it a lot harder to walk and talk at the same time. Eventually he made it to me. "Why were you taking a picture of my sign?" I replied "I thought it was funny". This is where the story gets strange. I let him know that I was taking a picture of the sign because I thought it was funny. He said "I am a knife distributor..and I have inventory to sell". At this point he seemed a little miffed. I told the man that there was no judgment coming from me, I simply thought that it was funny that a mercy mission was advertising it's great selection of knives. "You know son..I never thought of it that way..maybe it is funny". He went on to tell me that he was the pastor of this church and that he was questioning me because one of his preachers had been relieved of his duties recently for "doing harm to his parishioners". He wasn't sure if this was some sort of "legal" picture taking. I assured him it was not. This man had one more surprise for me. This man,a stranger really, put his hand on my shoulder and said "Son let me pray with you"."I don't want you to leave here thinking I had anger for you in my heart" We prayed and he sent me on my way. I love Alabama.
